AMAR SINGH APOLOGISES TO AMITABH BACHCHAN, FAMILY | 21 February, 2020

Ailing politician Amar Singh released a video on 18th February in which he said, he may have over-reacted against his estranged friends, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. Singh extended an olive branch in the video message apparently shot from a hospital bed in Singapore and a tweet expressing “regret” over his “bitter invectives” against Amitabh and his family. He tweeted, “Today is my father’s death anniversary, and I got a message for the same from @SrBachchan ji. At this stage of life when I am fighting a battle of life and death, I regret my over reaction against Amitji and family. God bless them all.”

Amar Singh and Amitabh parted ways when Samajwadi patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh had a fallout, and Amar Singh expected Jaya Bachchan to quit her Rajya Sabha seat and follow him. She not only did not do that but also accepted another term. Amar Singh considered himself as being instrumental in helping Jaya Bachchan secure the Rajya Sabha berth and also felt that his earlier help to the Bachchan family at a time when Amitabh’s business ventures had floundered had been forgotten. Amar Singh had then issued terse public statements against the Bachchans and had added that the Bachchans had backstabbed him like Brutus had, Julius Caesar.

On 18th February, Amar Singh struck a conciliatory note, acknowledging that Bachchan had, in the last 10 years, never stopped wishing him on his birthday or remembering his (Amar Singh’s) father on his death anniversary.

Amar Singh said in the video that he had decided to apologise and withdraw the harsh, bitter language that he had used against the Bachchan family.
