Producer-director Anand Sagar breathed his last today (13th February) in Bombay. He was 82 and had been ailing for several years. He was the son of legendary producer-director Ramanand Sagar.
Anand Sagar’s first film as a director was the silver jubilee hit, Hamrahi. The other films directed by Anand Sagar were Ram Bharose, Pyara Dushman, Armaan and Badal. The song Hari om Hari from his Pyara Dushman was among the early disco songs which set off the disco culture in India. The Ramba ho Samba ho song from Armaan was also a huge hit then. Both the songs are popular even today.
Anand had co-directed with his father the super-successful TV serial, Ramayan. He had also co-directed TV serial Shri Krishna with Ramanand Sagar, and TV serial Alif Laila with his brothers, Prem Sagar and Moti Sagar. Anand was also the director of TV serial Jai Ganga Maiya.
For someone who started his career as a clapper-boy and assistant art director in his father’s Arzoo, Anand Sagar did well for himself. For many years, he was also the chief production executive in his home production banners.
