The La Trobe University of Australia has handed over a cheque of Aus $4,717 (around Rs. 23 lakh) to Shah Rukh Khan’s MEER Foundation which works for women empowerment, including victims of acid attack. The University’s vice chancellor said, the donation was contributed by teachers and students. La Trobe also announced a Shah Rukh Khan-La Trobe University Ph.D. scholarship of Rs. 1 crore for an aspiring woman researcher from India, to make a meaningful impact in the lives of the underprivileged.
The varsity awarded Shah Rukh the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa) last month in recognition of his dedication to women’s empowerment through his Foundation and his stupendous achievements in the Indian entertainment industry.
