With Jabariya Jodi having been pushed ahead by a week, the major beneficiaries as far as number of shows is concerned are the already running films and Khandaani Shafakhana. One would have thought, the cinemas would increase the shows of Fast & Furious: Hobbs And Shaw because that’s the hottest release of 2nd August and it is because of the potential threat of the Hollywood film that Balaji Telefilms postponed the release of Jabariya Jodi by a week, but that’s not the case.
In normal circumstances, JJ was scheduled to get two or three shows in any three-screen multiplex on 2nd August if it were to hit the screens alongwith F & F and Khandaani Shafakhana. These two shows have now mostly been allocated to the films which would’ve either been taken off the multiplexes to make place for the three new films, or those films, shows of which would’ve been reduced to one show or two shows per day. In other words, the beneficiaries are going to be Judgementall Hai Kya, Super 30, The Lion King etc. If the Fast & Furious spinoff has not got an extra show or two because of the postponement, it is because the multiplexes were in any case giving the optimum number of shows needed by the film. Besides, since F & F is releasing only in 2K cinemas, the excess shows available in non-2K cinemas due to the postponement of JJ does not make those shows available for F & F as the Hollywood film will not be showing in such (non-2K) cinemas.
As far as single-screen cinemas are concerned, the maximum advantage has gone to Khandaani Shafakhana as many of those cinemas will now screen only Khandaani Shafakhana in all the four shows instead of screening KS in daily two shows and JJ in two shows.
