A day after reports surfaced that music director A.R. Rahman had informed the Supreme Court of his willingness to credit late Ustad M. Faiyazuddin Dagar and Ustad Zahiruddin Dagar for the song Veera Raja Veera from Ponniyin Selvan II (Tamil), the music composer’s lawyer issued a clarification on February 21. “The claims of authorship by Jr. Dagar Bandhu over the composition of Shiva Stuti and the allegations of copyright infringement are categorically denied and disputed,” advocate Narmada Sampath said in a statement.
Shiva Stuti is a landmark rendition composed by renowned classical singers Jr. Dagar Bandhu. According to Sampath, “These positions, as upheld by the Delhi high court, remain fully intact and unaffected by the clarification to the credits given before the apex court. The Supreme Court disposed of a plea by Ustad Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar challenging the high court order,” Sampath said.
