Abdul Rauf Merchant, an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, and a prime accused in the 1997 murder of music mogul Gulshan Kumar, died at the Harsul Central Prison in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad) on the morning of January 8. Doctors said, the convict might have died of cardiac arrest.
He had been admitted to hospital twice between December 30 and January 8.
