GURDWARAS PLACING PIGGY BANKS TO HELP RECOVER LOSSES IN ‘SATLUJ’ | 8 August, 2026

Honey Trehan, director of the controversial film Satluj, has revealed that gurdwaras globally have come forward to help recover losses in his film by placing gullaks (piggy banks) so that visitors can contribute. The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh and based on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, was streamed on Zee5 for two days on July 3 and 4, but the government then ordered it to be taken down, citing national security and public order concerns, under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

Thanking supporters for backing the film, Trehan said, “With all due respect. we cannot accept any money, gifts or donations for our film.” The filmmaker also wrote on Instagram that the film’s team and producers had graciously accepted Satluj into their legacy despite their losses.
