The Rajasthan high court on January 31 rejected the bail applications of filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, his wife and two others in a cheating and criminal breach of trust case. Justice Vinod Kumar Bharwani said, granting of bail at this stage would be inappropriate as investigations were underway. The prosecution argued that the accused could influence witnesses, if released.
The case stems from Indira IVF founder Ajay Murdia’s complaint that funds he gave Bhatt for film production were misappropriated by him using fake bills. The court had earlier ruled that the allegations indicated prima facie financial misconduct.
