Actor Imran Khan, a US national who was issued a Leave India Notice by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), gave an unconditional apology to the Bombay high court on November 2. The court noted Khan’s apology and posted the matter to December 7.
Justice Advait Sethna said, Imran Khan, who was not a citizen of India, did not have the right to protest. The actor had participated in the recent protest organised by Tushar Gandhi and had posted allegedly instigating content on social media. Imran was forthwith issued a notice by the FRRO to show cause why his OCI registration should not be cancelled.
Imran said, “I have never made any demands and have categorically stated that I am no one to make any demands. I was present there to see why freedom of movement was being restricted and why people’s voices were being oppressed and suppressed.” He added, “I have utmost love and respect for this great nation. I have… contributed substantially through the furnishing of taxes and the creation of jobs for several persons.”
