The makers of National Award-winning film, Sudani From Nigeria, including director Zakariya Mohammed and co-writer Muhsin Purari, will boycott the National Awards ceremony in Delhi as a mark of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). The film, released in 2018, won the National Film Award for the best feature film in Malayalam in that year.

In a Facebook post with the hashtag Reject CAN and boycott NRC, Zakariya said on 15th December that the producers of the film also would boycott the awards function.
