The Bombay high court recently restrained actress Tanushree Dutta from making allegations against Nana Patekar’s Naam Foundation after the NGO slapped a Rs. 25-crore defamation suit against her for speaking out against it at a press conference in January this year. Tanushree, who had in 2018 accused Nana of sexual harassment during the shooting of Horn OK Pleassss, had said that Naam Foundation had siphoned off funds and had indulged in bribery, subverting police and judicial system, collected funds on false pretexts, and maintained improper accounts. The court restrained Tanushree from further publishing or using in any way the contents of the said defamatory press conference to cause further damage to the Foundation’s reputation.
The police closed Tanushree’s sexual harassment case in June 2019, terming her complaint as “false”. The actress filed a petition against the closure and it is currently pending before the high court. In fact, the press conference in January 2020 was called by Tanushree to inform the media about the plea she had filed against the police’s closure report. Speaking about Nana’s defamation suit, Tanushree said, the suit was a clear indication of how far Nana could go to trouble and silence her when she pointed out corruption.
