NASEER REITERATES STAND ON INTOLERANCE, CONDEMNS SEDITION CASE | 13 October, 2019

Naseeruddin Shah on 12th October said that he stood by his remarks on incidents of mob violence and was disturbed by the ‘open hate’ in the country. He was talking to actor Anand Tiwari at the India Film Project in Bombay. Naseeruddin was among the more than 180 members of the cultural community, who recently condemned the FIR lodged against 49 celebrities for writing an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, decrying growing incidents of mob lynching in the country. The FIR for alleged sedition had been filed in Muzaffarpur (Bihar) against such celebrities as Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shyam Benegal, Aparna Sen and Anurag Kashyap. The case was ultimately closed by the Bihar police when they felt that there were no merits in it. The police, in fact, decided to prosecute the complainant for his false case.
