Nazir Hoosein, owner of Liberty CineÂma of Bombay, passed away on the night of 12th May at Bombay Hospital. He was 78. His wife, Mrunal Gole, said, he was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmoÂnary disease which made his lungs weak. He was cremated on 14th at the ChandÂanwadi crematorium.
Hoosein was a motor sports enthusiast and was instrumental in starting the Himalayan Rally as the first president of the Himalayan Rally Association. Hoosein was a perfectionist. His father, Habib Hoosein, founded Liberty Cinema in 1947 after India’s independence. It deriÂves its name from the country’s independence. Liberty Cinema building is an art deco landmark of Bombay city.
