NETFLIX GROWTH BELOW EXPECTATIONS | 20 July, 2019

Netflix announced on 17th July that it lost 1,30,000 US streaming customers between April and June this year, for the first time in eight years. It added that it also missed targets for new subscribers overseas. Netflix shares, therefore, sank nearly 12% in after-hours trading. The video service blamed the loss on its slate of new shows during the quarter, which was not as appealing as expected. It also said, price increases in some markets dented growth. Netflix added 2.83 million paid streaming subscribers outside the US, below analyst expectations of 4.8 million. The service still expects to end the year with more new subscribers than it added in 2018. Netflix currently has 151.6 million streaming customers worldwide.
