New Zealand was forced to agree to ease its coronavirus border controls after a decision to let Hollywood director James Cameron into the country to film the Avatar sequel led to a protest over the government’s double standards. Cameron arrived in Wellington from Los Angeles last month to shoot the Avatar sequel.

To pacify those objecting, immigration minister Iain Lees-Galloway said that the requirement that dependants travel together with a citizen or resident in order to be allowed to enter the country would be relaxed next week. He added that workers will also be allowed in if they have specialist skills and are involved in a project of national importance.
