Paramount Skydance Corp finally closed its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on 6th October, completing one of the biggest media mergers of all time. Before the deal was sealed, Paramount had engaged in a bruising battle for control with Netflix. It had to also fight several anti-trust lawsuits.
The new company will be called Skydance and it combines two of the five largest Hollywood studios. Besides super-successful franchises like Harry Potter and Mission: Impossible, the new company will also own TV networks like CBS and TNT as well as two major subscription streaming services, Paramount+ and HBO Max.
David Ellison, who only completed the merger of his Skydance Media film production company with Paramount in August 2025, has continued to consolidate power in the media industry and is now one of Hollywood’s biggest moguls.
