The producers of PM Narendra Modi on 27th April sought clarification from the Election Commission of India about whether they can promote the film where the model code of conduct has ceased to be in operation. The film was not allowed to be released during elections as, according to the ECI, it would tilt the scale in favour of the BJP during elections since the film treated BJP’s Narendra Modi with reverence.
By April 29, the phase IV of the Lok Sabha elections were over in 373 constituencies out of 543 and hence the model code of conduct no longer applied there. The producers wanted to know from the ECI if they could revive promotions of their film in those constituencies. They are still waiting for the ECI to reply to them. The film, of course, can be released only after elections are complete in all the constituencies.
The new date for its release has been finalised as May 24.
