Producer Dheeraj Wadhawan (Kyta Productions), who is an accused in the Yes Bank and the DHFL fraud cases, and his entire family were a few days back detained in Mahabaleshwar for violating the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown. Around 23 members of the Wadhawan family and their cooks and house helps, including the film producer, drove from Khandala (near Bombay) to their farmhouse in Mahabaleshwar on 8th April in five cars even while the lockdown was in operation. Among the 23 was a bodyguard from Italy.
All the 23 persons were sent to quarantine. Both, Dheeraj and his brother, Kapil Wadhawan, will be taken into CBI custody after their quarantine ends.
It may be mentioned here that the Maharashtra state government has taken serious note of this lapse and has sent the special principal secretary in the home department, IPS officer Amitabh Gupta, on compulsory leave as he had given the Wadhawans permission to travel. Gupta has agreed to his mistake.
