Veteran Bengali film singer and actress Ruma Guha Thakurta passed away in Calcutta on the morning of 3rd June. She was 84 and is survived by two sons and a daughter.
Ruma was married to singer and actor Kishore Kumar from whom she had a son, singer Amit Kumar. After her divorce from Kishore Kumar, she married Arup Guha Thakurta from whom she had a son and a daughter.
She made her acting debut in 1944 with Jwar Bhata. She married Kishore Kumar in 1950 but separated from him in 1958. She had acted in a total of more than 65 films. In 1958, Satyajit Ray, Salil Chowdhury, Ruma and others founded the Calcutta Youth Choir, a platform to popularise folk and mass songs.
