While the nation mourns the demise of Sushma Swaraj, it would be apt to recall that she was the one who granted industry status to the film world on 10th May, 1998. Sushma Swaraj was then Information & Broadcasting minister and by granting the film world industry status, she made it possible for institutional finance to flow into the industry. That was only one of the advantages of the historic step Swaraj took 21 years ago. If the film industry has become far more organised today than what it was till the late 1990s, it is largely because of Sushma Swaraj granting industry status to films. The youngest cabinet minister of Haryana (at the age of 25) and the first lady chief minister of Delhi breathed her last on 6th August in Delhi.
