According to the chargesheet filed in the accident case of TV actor Shahbaaz Badi three months back, his wife, Amrin, was in his lap when he lost control of the car at Sewri in Bombay. The car rammed six people near a bus stop, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old man and his 18-year-old relative. Four other members of the same family sustained serious injuries. Amrin was also seriously injured. The accident occurred on 9th June.
Badi was initially booked under IPC sections 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligen ce). On 13th June, he was arrested under the stringent IPC section 304(II) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This charge carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in jail.
The actor denied that his wife was in a compromising position in his lap before the accident. He told the court that she was flung on his lap when the car over-turned due to the impact of the collision.
