VIDYUT JAMMWAL, FRIEND ACQUITTED IN ASSAULT CASE OF 2007 | 22 June, 2019

A magistrate’s court in Bombay on 17th June acquitted Vidyut Jammwal and his model-friend, Hrishant Goswami, in an assault case of 12 years ago. The duo had been accused of hitting businessman Rahul Suri at a five-star hotel at Santacruz (East) in Bombay.

Suri and about 25 colleagues had arrived at the hotel for a party on 31st August, 2007. Around 2 a.m., after the party, an argument took place in the hotel lobby, following which Suri allegedly bumped into a woman. One of the two persons accompanying the woman, later identified as Hrishant Goswami, hit Suri on the head with a bottle, while the other, Vidyut, hit Suri on the hands, back and chest. Suri lodged a police complaint against the two at the Vakola police station.

Charges were framed against the two in 2017. Suri did not depose during the trial. Since no credible evidence was produced in court, the two were acquitted.
