Tamil films’ superstar Vijay was sworn in as the new chief minister of Tamil Nadu today (10th May). After winning 108 seats in the state Assembly elections, he was on May 9 invited by the governor to form the ministry. The oath-taking ceremony was held this morning at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Staduim in Madras.
With support of four MLAs from VCK and IUML, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam reached the 120-mark (excluding one of Vijay’s two seats), more than the required simple majority of 118 MLAs in the 234-member Assembly. The TVK also has the unconditional support of the Congress (5 MLAs), CPI (2) and CPM (2).
