WRITER-DIRECTOR FILES COPYRIGHT CASE AGAINST ‘BALA’ PRODUCER, WRITER | 14 September, 2019

National Award-winning director Praveen Morchhale on 28th August filed a copyright case in the Bombay high court against Maddock Films, producers of Bala, and the film’s writer, Niren Bhatt. He has accused them of violation of copyright, stating that the story of Bala about premature balding was lifted from his screenplay. He has stated in his complaint that his story had been registered with the Film Writers’ Association (FWA) in 2007.

Although Morchhale admits that he hadn’t met Dinesh Vijan, producer of Bala, or its writer, he says that his story’s premise had been lifted by them as he had narrated the idea and story to many people in the industry.

Praveen Morchhale won three National Awards in 2017 for his film, Walking With The Wind.

Maddock Films has denied the claim of Morchhale.
