Act Three Productions and Film Squad Productions’ Babita Singh Reporting is the story of a police officer, who is trying to impress her seniors and is excited about her work, but gets suspended. She visits her in-laws with her husband for the first time after marriage. Once there, she finds that she has to divide her time between uncovering the truth in a murder investigation and a family function.
Amita Vyas has written a story which doesn’t offer much by way of novelty or excitement. Vyas’ screenplay moves at an easy pace and although it keeps the viewers fairly engaged, it never takes the drama to a level where the audience would wait with bated breath for the proceedings to unfold. Consequently, the viewers watch the drama without really being involved in the guessing game. The outcome of the murder investigation is so lacklustre that the climax fails to give the audience any kind of high. Amita Vyas’ dialogues are quite natural.
Nimisha Sajayan acts realistically as police officer Babita alias Baby. Anshuman Pushkar is natural in the role of Sharad. Barun Sobti is quite good as Bansi. Rajesh Kumar makes his presence amply felt as SI Sethi. Geetika Vidya Ohlyan does a fair job in a guest appearance as Karamjeet. Nawal Shukla has his moments as the SHO. Sunita Rajwar plays Baby’s mother-in-law effectively. Priya Yadav enacts the role of Guddi well. Gaurav Naresh Kalushte does quite well as the drug addict. Kanishk Dwivedi is alright as the curly-haired drug addict. Ravi Jhankal makes his mark as the shop owner. Kuldeep Sareen is okay as the Dassera contractor. Priyanka Setia lends decent support as Rupa. Alina Azeem (as Bansi’s daughter), Mukesh Pachode (as Bansi’s craftsman), Suman Purty (as the female police officer at Rewa), Devendra Awasthi (as the male police officer at Rewa), Rajat Dahiya (as Bharadwaj), Snehalata Siddharth Tagde (as Baby’s sister), Muskan Arora (as Archana), Mahender Bisht (as Bansi’s neighbour uncle), Amit Kasera (as the property dealer), Nitin Goel (as Mangal), Abeer Ali (as Guddi’s husband), and the rest do as desired.
Ambiecka Pandit’s direction is average. Ajay Jayanthi’s music suits the small-town mood of the film. Lyrics (Anvitaa Dutt) are quite nice. Background music (Ajay Jayanthi) is routine. Sunil Borkar’s camerawork is fair. Amritpal Singh’s action and stunt scenes are reasonably good. Mukund Gupta and Vahi Shaikh’s production designing, and Yogesh Bansode’s art direction are alright. Tanya Chhabria’s editing is fairly sharp.
On the whole, Babita Singh Reporting is an ordinary fare.
