PYX and Pooja Entertainment And Films Ltd.’s Khamoshi (UA) is about an inheritance dispute. It is an adaptation of Hollywood film Hush.
A lady walks out of a bad marriage, leaving behind her husband (Vikram Bhatt) and their little son, Dev. The son grows up (Prabhu Deva) to be frustrated because his father keeps taunting him that the mother had left them because he (Dev) was born unlucky.
Dev’s mother settles down in London and adopts a deaf-mute girl, Surbhi. The mother dies when Surbhi is still very young. Surbhi grows up (Tamannaah Bhatia) and inherits the palatial bungalow of her adoptive mother. Dev’s father keeps instigating him to stake claim on the property.
Dev, therefore, tries to kill Surbhi so that he can usurp the property. But Surbhi plans to use the property for the betterment of poor kids.
Dev first kills Surbhi’s lawyer. Even as Surbhi is trying to save herself from Dev who has entered her bungalow, Mr. Desai (Sanjay Suri) and then Mrs. Desai (Bhumika Chawla) are murdered by Dev. Mr. and Mrs. Desai were known to Surbhi and often visited her. Mrs. Desai had been trying to usurp the property. What happens to Dev and Surbhi?
Chakri Toleti’s story is weak and extremely predictable. If his story is clichéd, Dheeraj Rattan’s screenplay is so routine and oft-repeated that there’s just no element of suspense or surprise. The drama is of one single night, adding to the monotony. Chakri Toleti’s dialogues are quite alright.
Prabhu Deva does a fair job as Dev. Tamannaah Bhatia performs ably as the deaf-mute Surbhi. Bhumika Chawla lends decent support as Mrs. Desai. Vikram Bhatt gets limited scope as Dev’s dad; he is okay. Sanjay Suri is alright as Mr. Desai. Others are average.
Chakri Toleti’s direction is as hackneyed as his story. Background music is impactful. Cory Christopher Geryak’s cinematography is nice. Shakti Hasija’s editing is not very sharp.
On the whole, Khamoshi is a dull fare.
