Swastik-Preeti Film Production and Amar Chitravani’s Mhorkya (Marathi; meaning ‘Leader’) is the story of a child whose life had been mortgaged by his father to a money-lender.
Ashya (master Raman Deokar) studies in class VII but because his life was mortgaged to a money-lender by his father who is no more, he is not allowed by the money-lender to attend school daily.
One day, Ashya is enamoured of the job of leading the Republic Day parade in school because he has a strong voice. Despite the school principal asking the PT teacher (Anil Kamble) to train Ashya as the parade leader, the teacher favours Balya (master Yashraj Karhade) for the same. Not the one to give up, Ashya asks a mentally deranged ex-soldier, Annya (Amar Deokar), to train him in leading the parade.
Is Ashya allowed to lead the parade in school on 26th January?
Amar Bharat Deokar’s story is quite nice and moves the audience emotionally at a couple of places. His screenplay is simplistic and also predictable at places but it, nevertheless, keeps the viewers engaged. Amar Deokar’s dialogues are nice.
Master Raman Deokar performs ably as Ashya. Master Yashraj Karhade does a good job as Balya. Amar Deokar leaves a mark in the role of Annya. Baby Aishwarya Kambale is average as Nikita. Anil Kambale is okay as the PT teacher. Ramchandra Dhumal lends fair support as Gomtar Aaba.
Amar Bharat Deokar’s direction is quite nice. Rohit Nagbhide’s background music is fairly effective. Girish R. Jambhalikar’s camerawork is of a fine standard. Atul Lokhande’s sets are alright. Editing (Nilesh Meena Rasal and Saumitra Dharasurkar) is quite sharp.
On the whole, Mhorkya is an average fare which will do decent business.
