‘RAMBO: LAST BLOOD (Dubbed)’ | 21 September, 2019

Millennium Media, Balboa Productions and Templeton Media’s Rambo: Last Blood (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; A) is the fifth instalment in the Rambo franchise and sequel to Rambo (2008).

Eleven years after the Burma events, John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) inherits his father’s horse ranch in Arizona. He manages the ranch with his old friend, Maria (Adriana Barraza), and her grand-daughter, Gabrielle (Yvette Monreal). Much against their wishes, Gabrielle accompanies friend Jezel (Fenessa Pineda) to Mexico to confront her estranged father, Miguel (Marco de la O), and ask him why he had deserted her and her mom.

In Mexico, Miguel tells Gabrielle that he didn’t care for the two. Jezel takes a crestfallen Gabrielle to a local club from where she is kidnapped after being drugged. Rambo travels to Mexico to track down Gabrielle.

Based on characters written by David Morrell, the story is written by Dan Gordon and Sylvester Stallone. It offers nothing new and is actually boring. The screenplay, by Matt Cirulnick and Sylvester Stallone, is boring and often slow. Again, it lacks freshness and novelty and moves on a predictable path.

Sylvester Stallone is ordinary as Rambo. Yvette Monreal is alright as Gabrielle. Adriana Barraza lends fair support as Maria. Fenessa Pineda provides routine support in the role of Jezel. Marco de la O is so-so as Miguel. Paz Vega performs decently as Carmen. Sergio Peris-Mencheta is just about ordinary as Hugo Martinez. Others lend routine support.

Adrian Grunberg’s direction is weak. Brian Tyler’s background music is nothing to shout about. Brendan Galvin’s cinematography is of a fine standard. Production designing (by Franco-Giacomo and Carbone) is okay. Editing (Carsten Kurpanek and Todd E. Miller) should’ve been sharper. Dubbing is nice.

On the whole, Rambo: Last Blood has some exciting action but that’s about all. The script is weak and, therefore, it can hope to do fair business in some centres only. Otherwise, it doesn’t stand any chance at the rest of the box-office.

Released on 20-9-’19 at Maratha Mandir (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru PVR Pictures Ltd. Publicity & opening: weak. …….Also released all over. Opening was dull everywhere.
