SENIOR CITIZEN (Marathi) | 14 December, 2019

Aum Creations’ Senior Citizen (Marathi; UA) is the story of two senior citizens and how they combat youngsters.

Abhay Deshpande (Mohan Joshi), better known as Tiger, is a retired army officer who lives with his wife, Laxmi (Smita Jayakar). Laxmi teaches dance to some girls. Abhay and Laxmi’s son is a martyr.

One day, builder Babu Pawar (Vijay Patkar) threatens Tiger to sell him his (Tiger’s bungalow) but Tiger refuses.

Soumya Kamat (Amruta Pawar) learns dancing under Laxmi. But she plots with boyfriend Sahil (Suyog Gorhe) and his friend, Vicky (Ashish Pawar), to steal a gold statue of Shivaji from Laxmi teacher’s house. However, Tiger reaches in the nick of time. In the fight that ensues, Tiger shoots dead Sahil and Vicky. Television journalist Sweety Gupta (Sneha Chavan) captures the robbery bid on camera. Tiger is arrested for the murder of Sahil and Vicky. But he is freed when police inspector Kolhe (Kamlesh Sawant) gets to know the entire story.

Ajay Phansekar has penned a silly story which has no meat. His screenplay is so haphazard and incomplete that the audience is left wondering why the film was ever made. Important ingredients of a commercial film, like romance, comedy, action and emotions are absent. Ajay Phansekar’s dialogues are ordinary.

Mohan Joshi is good in the role of Tiger. Smita Jayakar plays Laxmi ably. Vijay Patkar lends reasonable support as builder Babu Pawar. Amruta Pawar performs quite well as Soumya. Suyog Gorhe makes his presence felt in a brief role as Sahil. Ashish Pawar is alright as Vicky. Kamlesh Sawant leaves a fine mark as police inspector Kolhe. Sneha Chavan has her moments in a brief role as television journalist Sweety Gupta. Pranit Pawar (as Gaurrsh Shirpurkar), Shruti Boradia (as Priti) and Kiran Tambe (as Gwen Lobo) provide routine support.

Ajay Phansekar’s direction is too commonplace to be true. Abhijit Narvekar’s music is functional. Lyrics (Ambarish Deshpande and Akhil Joshi) are okay. Amit Baing’s choreography hardly deserves separate mention. B. Laxman’s camerawork is so-so. Rakesh Kudalkar’s editing is loose.

On the whole, Senior Citizen is a flop show.
