UNFRIENDS | 14 December, 2019

Riangsh Entertainment World’s Unfriends (UA) is about rape, cyber crimes and acceptance of rape victims.

Veer (Sahil Akhtar) is a middle-class man wishing to start his own business and in search of an investor. Vijay (Nafe Khan), son of a minister, befriends Veer on Facebook and ends up investing in Veer’s startup company.

To celebrate the association, Veer and Vijay go on a long drive to Lonavala. On the way, they meet Mouli (Mousumi Biswas). Vijay rapes her. Veer saves Mouli and the two escape from there. Since Vijay is influential, a huge controversy erupts over the rape. Veer keeps his fledgling career aside and vows to seek justice for Mouli. Politicians do their bit to make life miserable for Veer and Mouli in their quest for justice. But Veer is made of sterner stuff. Why, he even accepts Mouli as his life partner.

Abdul Gaffar Khan and Vijayendra Gangwar have written a story which has no soul. The duo’s screenplay is so haphazard that it ends up conveying nothing. Even the duo’s dialogues are weak.

Sahil Akhtar is so-so as Veer. Mousumi Biswas is ordinary as Mouli. Nafe Khan does an average job as Vijay. Rajat Rawail (as Aryan), Himayat Ali Khan (as Raj Narayan Malhotra) and Avinash (as Ayan Khan) come up with unexciting performances. Prashant Poojari, Gun Gun Hira, Vipin Singh, Sheena and Mohan Rao Pimple provide routine support.

Ashfaque Shaikh’s direction is way below average. Music (by Nayab Raja) and lyrics (Satya Prakash, Asad Ajmeri and Nayab Ali) are not upto the mark. Vikram Borade’s choreography is commonplace. Varun Bediye’s background music is hardly passable. Triloki Chaudhary’s camerawork is average. Nuren Ahmed Ansari’s editing should have been far more sharp.

On the whole, Unfriends pretends to be a cool and topical film but ends up being a disastrous fare.

Released on 13-12-’19 at Glamour (daily 1 show) and other cinemas of Bombay thru Pioneer Enterprises. Publicity & opening: poor. …….Also released all over. Opening was weak everywhere.
