CASE AGAINST RAM GOPAL VARMA OVER ‘DEROGATORY POSTS’ AGAINST ANDHRA CM, KIN | 12 November, 2024

A case was registered against filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh on November 11 on a police complaint alleging that he had posted derogatory content on social media, which tarnished the reputation of chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his son and IT minister Nara Lokesh, and daughter-in-law Brahmani, besides other TDP functionaries, during the promotion of his film Vyooham.

The police booked Varma under the Information Technology Act for online defamation and misuse of digital platforms for spreading false information, based on a complaint lodged by TDP mandal secretary Ramalingam. An investigation had been launched into the allegations.

Vyooham was initially scheduled for release in February, but it was surrounded by multiple controversies and ultimately saw release in March, a few weeks before the general elections.
