SAIF RECUPERATING AFTER 5-HOUR SURGERY FOLLOWING ATTACK AT HOME | 17 January, 2025

Saif Ali Khan, who was stabbed yesterday morning (January 16) while fighting an intruder in his quadruplex flat at Bandra, Bombay, got six wounds. The most serious was a 3-inch knife tip lodged in his mid-spine region very close to the vertebrae. There was a deep wound on his left wrist, another on the right side of his neck, and minor abrasions on his hands, stomach and chest.

Doctors at Lilavati Hospital, where the actor was rushed to by son Ibrahim Khan (who lives in the neighbouring building), operated on him for more than five hours. The tip of the knife was removed surgically.

Saif arrived bleeding at the hospital around 3.30 a.m. The spine surgery took over two-and-a-half hours. A plastic surgeon then operated him on the wrist and neck. Saif was wheeled out of the operation theatre and into the ICU around 11 a.m. He is likely to be discharged from hospital in a day or two. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, told the media that Saif was out of danger and recuperating well.

Meanwhile, no arrest was made as the intruder locked himself in a room while Saif’s family and staff got busy attending to his injuries, and fled from the building soon thereafter via the fire escape stairwell. A CCTV footage, recorded on the building camera, gives the impression that the robber is in his thirties. The robber demanded Rs. 1 crore from a house staff member, Eliyamma Phillip, who was the first to confront him when she was woken up by some sounds. She and Saif-Kareena’s younger son, Jehangir, were attacked by the intruder with a wooden stick and a hacksaw blade. The nanny of their other son, Taimur, was attacked with a hacksaw blade.

The robber entered Saif and Kareena’s flat around 2.30 a.m.
