Gujarati film Umbarro is not only scoring well at the Gujarat, Saurashtra and Bombay circuit box-office but is also creating records in the UK. Believe it or not but the film, directed by Abhishek Shah, has grossed around Rs. 80 lakh in 4 weeks’ run in the United Kingdom. Given the audience appreciation, Ankit Chandiramani (Sunshine Studios), who is distributing the film in the UK, is thrilled beyond words!
Umbarro is the story of seven women from rural Gujarat who embark on their first international trip to London. They face cultural clashes, language barriers, and societal stigmas along their journey to claim their space in the world. It stars Vandana Pathak, Kaajal Oza Vaidya, Suchita Trivedi, Deeksha Joshi, Tarjanee Bhadla, Tejal Panchasara and Vineeta Joshee with Aarjav Trivedi. The film is running in its 8th week in India and is still going strong! It has netted more than Rs. 10 crore in India alone!!
Abhishek Shah’s maiden Gujarati film, Hellaro (2019), had won the National Award for the best feature film in the 66th National Film Awards. Like Umbarro, Hellaro is also a woman-centric film.
