KARUR STAMPEDE CASE: CBI ISSUES NOTICE TO ACTOR-POLITICIAN VIJAY FOR QUESTIONING | 6 January, 2026

The CBI has issued a notice summoning actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay to appear for questioning on January 12 at the agency’s headquarters in Delhi in connection with the Karur stampede case. Several office-bearers of the TVK have already been interrogated in the matter.

It is after Vijay’s appearance that the CBI will take a decision on filing a chargesheet in the case. The agency took over the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) after a Supreme Court order, and it has been collecting evidence related to the stampede which occurred on September 27 last year. At least 41 persons were killed and over 60, injured in a stampede during a political rally addressed by Vijay in Karur (Tamil Nadu).

The TVK had earlier submitted video evidence to the CBI to support its claim that lapses by the state government and the police had led to the stampede, as the apex court-monitored probe concluded its three-day inquiry in Delhi.
