SMALL-TIME ACTOR, ABSCONDER IN MURDER CASE, ARRESTED | 22 May, 2026

The Ahmedabad crime branch arrested small-time actor Hemant Nagindas Modi on May 20 for jumping parole while serving a life sentence for a 2005 murder in Naroda.

Hemant Modi, also known as Spandan Modi, was one of the seven men convicted in 2008 for the 2005 murder of a man during a clash. He was lodged in Mehsana jail, and was granted a 30-day parole by the Gujarat high court in July 2014. Instead of surrendering himself after the parole, Modi escaped and was declared absconder. For the next almost 12 years, Spandan Modi shifted base to Bombay and built a career as a supporting actor. He acted in films like Thugs Of Hindostan, Jayeshbhai Jordaar and TV serial Wagle Ki Duniya. He also worked in a Gujarati film.

The Ahmedabad police got a tip-off about Modi and arrested him earlier this week near the Ghee Kanta metro station in Ahmedabad.
