New Line Cinema, Screen Gems and Ghost House Pictures’ Evil Dead Burn (dubbed from the Hollywood film of the same name; A) is a supernatural horror film, the sixth in the Evil Dead film series and the third stand-alone instalment, after Evil Dead and Evil Dead Rise.
Following William Price’s (George Pullar) death, his widow, Alice (Souheila Yacoub), goes to spend time with his family at their secluded family home. Rather than giving her solace, the family reunion becomes a living hell for Alice. The problems multiply when the Book of the Dead unleashes demonic forces that transform living members into Deadites.
Florent Bernard, Sam Raimi and Sébastien Vaniček have written an interesting and engaging story. Their screenplay is truly entertaining as there are many moments which send chills down the viewers’ spines.
Souheila Yacoub acts well as Alice. Hunter Doohan is good as Alice’s brother-in-law, Joseph Price. Tandi Wright is natural to the core as Alice’s mother-in-law, Susan Pice. Luciane Buchanan is adequate as Joseph’s girlfriend, Thya. Erroll Shand has his moments as Alice’s father-in-law, Edgar Price. Maude Davey lends decent support as Polly Price. George Pullar is adequate as Alice’s husband, William Price. Victory Ndukwe (as Leo), Keanu Karim (as Jared), Tapiwa Soropa (as Mike), Alain Chabat (as Alice’s dad), Greta Van Den Brink (as Jessica) and Alyssa Sutherland (as Ellie) provide the necessary support.
Sébastien Vaniček’s direction is very good. Background music (by Xavier Caux, Douglas Cavanna and Double Danger) is pretty impactful. Philip Lozano’s cinematography is of a fine standard. Nick Connor’s production designing is good. Maxime Caro’s editing is suitably sharp. Dubbing is very nice.
On the whole, Evil Dead Burn is a box-office winner.
