Defending action against celebrities endorsing surrogate products, FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe on August 17 warned that all actors in an advertising chain were accountable.
The Food and Drug Administration recently issued a show-cause notice and a final warning to actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgan and Tiger Shroff for featuring in an advertisement for Vimal Elaichi, saying that the advertisement prima facie amounted to indirect or surrogate promotion of prohibited pan masala and tobacco-related products. The company had been found selling gutkha in the past.
