BANGLADESHI ILLEGAL PLEADS GUILTY IN SAIF HOME BREAK-IN CASE | 29 August, 2026

Bangladeshi national Shariful Islam, accused of breaking into the house of actor Saif Ali Khan in Satguru Sharan building at Bandra in Bombay and attacking him on January 16 last year, moved a sessions court in Bombay on August 28, 2026 and pleaded guilty, praying for leniency. The plea comes days after the court framed stringent charges for armed robbery or dacoity with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt against the actor. Shariful had been arrested on January 19, 2025. He was accused of grievously injuring Saif, his employee, and another witness with a weapon, with the intent to cause death.

On August 14, 2026, charges were also framed under the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry Into India) rules for illegally entering into and staying in India. The maximum sentence attracted is life imprisonment.

The prosecution’s reply has been sought and the matter will come up for hearing on September 11.
