RAID ON CHANNEL OFFICE IN COPYRIGHT, CHEATING CASE | 26 January, 2021

The Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) on 24th January carried out raids on the offices of Maha Movie channel in Delhi in connection with a copyright and cheating case involving the films of late producer-director Prakash Mehra. Equipments were seized, after which the channel has shut down.

The raids follow the arrest of the channel’s CEO, Sanjay Verma, on January 19. The police have issued lookout notices for the channel owners, Darshan Singh and Vishwajeet Sharma. Both are accused in TRP and copyright cases. The current case pertains to a complaint registered by Prakash Mehra’s son that the channel had aired Mehra’s Zanjeer, Laawaris, Jaadugar, Mohabbat Ke Dushman and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar without having the rights for the films. Last year, an FIR and a case had been registered against Narayan Sharma of Box Cinema for copyright violation, impersonation and cheating by airing an old Prakash Mehra hit.
