STAY ON HINDI REMAKE OF ‘SOORARAI POTTRU’ | 5 August, 2021

The Madras high court recently stayed the production of the Hindi remake of actor Suriya’s Tamil film, Soorarai Pottru. The remake was to be produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment and Vikram Malhotra’s Abundantia Entertainment. The Tamil film, based on the book Simply Fly – A Deccan Odyssey, authored by Captain G.R. Gopinath, was produced by Suriya and Guneet Mongia’s Sikhya Entertainment.

Guneet approached the Madras high court against Suriya over the remaking rights of the film, including in Hindi. Guneet alleged that the Tamil film was to have also been remade in Hindi by her and Suriya together. However, Suriya entered into a deal with Abundantia without Guneet’s consent. He also did not fulfill the obligations under the original contract between him and Guneet.
