DECISION ON REOPENING CINEMAS IN ASSAM TO BE TAKEN AFTER 15 DAYS | 3 September, 2021

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today (3rd September) said that a decision on reopening cinemas in the state would be taken in 15 days, after reviewing the COVID-19 situation for the fortnight. Cinemas in Assam have been closed since April this year when the second wave of Coronavirus hit the country.

Earlier, the All Assam Cinema Hall Employees Association expressed its disappointment over the government’s decision to not allow cinemas to reopen. It urged the government to grant permission to reopen cinemas as there were around 2,000 employees working in the 80 cinemas in Assam. The Association said, the employees were in distress due to the lockdown.
