RSVP and Roy Kapur Films’ Pippa will release on Dec. 9, 2022. Producers Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur announced the release date today (December 16) as India commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1971 Indo-Pak war today. This war led to the liberation of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971. The film is the true story of an entire family on the front lines during this epic war. The Russian amphibious war tank, PT-76, popularly and lovingly known then as Pippa, had played a key role in the war.
The film is currently being shot in Amritsar, West Bengal, Ahmednagar and Bombay. It is adapted from Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta’s book, The Burning Chaffees, which follows his story. He was the tank squadron of the 45th Cavalry. Ishaan Khatter plays Brij Mehta in the film which is directed by Raja Krishna Menon. Mrunal Thakur, Priyanshu Painyuli and Soni Razdan play other key roles.
