A legal notice has been sent to Haryana chief secretary seeking cancellation of parole granted to actor-writer-producer-director and Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The notice, sent by advocate H.C. Arora on October 29, said that by permitting the Dera head to hold satsang during the 40-day parole, the state government was virtually bowing before a man convicted of multiple rapes and murders. It added that the government was treating Ram Rahim as if he was above the law and was allowing him to promote the criminalisation of society.
The notice highlighted that Ram Rahim had released a video of his new song, Sadi nit Diwali, and by not asking YouTube to remove it, the Haryana government had indirectly helped the self-proclaimed Godman increase his following. Arora said, the state government’s conduct was creating an impression that rape and murder convicts like Ram Rahim Singh enjoyed its patronage.
