LAST WEEK’S FILMS FAIL TO SHINE, THIS WEEK’S OPEN DULL

None of the new releases this week took even an average opening… And none of the releases of last week could make a mark at the box-office.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai did ordinary business in 1st week. It netted Rs. 7 crore on the opening day. Since the public reports were average, collections didn’t jump on Saturday or Sunday. The film collected Rs. 7.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 8.25 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 22.50 crore. Collections for the weekdays were on the lower side: Monday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.50 crore. With the total for the weekdays being only Rs. 12.25 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 34.75 crore.

Bandar found few takers. The film opened to a dull response with a total collection of only Rs. 0.55 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday (Rs. 0.85 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 0.90 crore) were also dull. After a first weekend total of just Rs. 2.30 crore, collections during the weekdays were simply pathetic: Monday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.25 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was a poor Rs. 1.20 crore. In this way, the first week closed at only Rs. 3.50 crore.

Peddi (dubbed) could not fare too well in the first week. After netting Rs. 2.75 crore in paid previews on Thursday, it collected Rs. 1.75 crore on Friday, Rs. 2.25 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 2.75 crore on Sunday. Therefore, the total for the first weekend (including paid previews) was Rs. 9.50 crore. Collections during the weekdays were low: Monday – Rs. 1 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.70 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was a dull Rs. 3.65 crore, and the total for the first 8-day week was Rs. 13.15 crore.

He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe (dubbed and the original English versions) did average business in the first week. The original English version did far better than the dubbed Hindi version. It netted Rs. 4.50 crorein the first weekend, and another Rs. 2.50 crore during the weekdays, taking its first week’s total to Rs. 7 crore.

Chand Mera Dil managed to net just about Rs. 1 crore in the third week. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 27.25 crore.

Pati Patni Aur Woh Do added Rs. 1.15 crore to its kitty in 4th week. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 44.20 crore. If the block bookings of the first week were to be taken into account, the grand total for 4 weeks would be Rs. 47.50 crore.

Krishnavataram – Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam) collected Rs. 1.20 crore in 5th week, taking its grand total for 5 weeks to Rs. 35.35 crore.

Tumbadchi Manjula (Marathi) did very well in the first week in Maharashtra.

Deool Band 2 (Marathi) continued to score in the third week in Maharashtra. Its collections in 3rd week were nothing short of being extraordinary.
