Syeraa Narasimha Reddy (dubbed) could not do much due to the opposition of War. After the first 2-day (Wednesday and Thursday) total of Rs. 2.35 crore, it collected around Rs. 4.25 crore in the balance 7 days of the 9-day week. In this way, it netted Rs. 6.60 crore in the first week. The original Telugu version did extraordinary business in the first 9-day week.

Chhichhore added Rs. 2.58 crore to its kitty in the fifth week. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 145.86 crore.

LATEST POSITION | 5 October, 2019

The opening of WAR on Wednesday (Gandhi Jayanti holiday) was historic. SYERAA NARASIMHA REDDY took a phenomenal opening in the South on Wednesday but its dubbed Hindi version was a slow starter.

War created history on 2nd October by netting Rs. 51.60 crore on the first day. The dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions collected a total of Rs. 1.75 crore. In this way, the first day’s total was Rs. 53.35 crore. This was the highest opening ever for a straight Hindi film! Collections on the second day fell by more than 50% as it was still an odd day (Thursday) and also a working day. The original Hindi version netted Rs. 23.10 crore on day 2 while the dubbed versions collected Rs. 1.25 crore. In other words, the total for the second day was Rs. 24.35 crore. Hence its total for the first 2 days was Rs. 77.70 crore (Hindi – Rs. 74.70 crore; dubbed versions – Rs. 3 crore). The film held on best in Delhi-U.P., Eastern circuit and South India. Around 150-200 screens were added on Friday.

Syeraa Narasimha Reddy (dubbed) took a very ordinary start on Wednesday but the original Telugu version killed it at the box-office. The original version collected around Rs. 56.50 crore while the dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam collected a total of Rs. 6.75 crore. The dubbed Hindi version netted Rs. 1.65 crore. In this way, the first day’s total for all the versions was Rs. 64.90 crore. The dubbed Hindi version collected Rs. 0.70 crore on the second day; the drop in collections was pronounced because Thursday was an odd day and a working day. It grossed Rs. 14 crore Overseas on the first day.

Main Zaroor Aaunga fared miserably in 1st week everywhere.

Little Baby proved a damp squib at the box-office in the first week.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas crashed so badly in its second week that it is now out of the cinemas after a 12-day run.

Prassthanam also nose-dived in 2nd week. It has been discontinued from most cinemas after a 12-day run.

There’s no major release this week. All the releases of last week fared miserably at the box-office. Hence, CHHICHHORE and DREAM GIRL are having dream runs at the ticket windows.

Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas met with a dismal fate in 1st week. It started on a bad note when it collected only Rs. 1.15 crore on the first day. Collections increased by only Rs. 20 lakh on Saturday so that the day closed at Rs. 1.35 crore. Collections on Sunday also were pathetic (Rs. 1.65 crore). After a weekend of Rs. 4.15 crore, collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.60 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.45 crore. By adding Rs. 2.10 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, the film took its first week’s total to Rs. 6.25 crore. It will entail huge losses to all concerned.

Prassthanam has turned out to be a debacle. It started on a miserable note and ended likewise. Its first day closed at Rs. 0.75 crore. Collections increased to Rs. 0.85 crore on Saturday and further to Rs. 1.15 crore on Sunday. In fact, Sunday was the only day when it touched/crossed the crore-mark. Therefore, its first weekend closed at Rs. 2.75 crore. Collections during the weekdays were no better: Monday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.30 crore. In this way, the film netted only Rs. 1.50 crore in the weekdays. The first week, therefore, closed at Rs. 4.25 crore.

The Zoya Factor was the worst of the lot of last week’s films. It collected less than Rs. 1 crore on each single day of the first week. It started off with Rs. 0.70 crore on day 1. Collections increased by Rs. 10 lakh only, on Saturday so that the second day closed at Rs. 0.80 crore. The total for Sunday was also only Rs. 0.80 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 2.30 crore. Collections thereafter were horrifyingly poor: Monday – Rs. 0.20 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.15 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.10 crore. By netting only Rs. 0.60 crore in the weekdays, the film took its first week’s total to Rs. 2.90 crore. Total loss!

Rambo: Last Blood (dubbed) and the English original of the same name fared poorly in its first week. Its first day closed at Rs. 0.90 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.10 crore and Rs. 1.25 crore respectively so that the first weekend closed at Rs. 3.25 crore. Collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.30 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.30 crore. Hence it added Rs. 1.35 crore to its kitty in the weekdays. In this way, its first week closed at Rs. 4.60 crore.

Dream Girl had a fantastic second week also. It joined the Rs. 100-crore club on the eleventh day. The second weekend started off very well, with the film netting Rs. 5.30 crore on the first day. Collections increased by 70% on the second day of the second weekend! After a total of Rs. 9.10 crore on Saturday, collections increased by another 21% on Sunday when it ended at Rs. 11.05 crore. LATEST POSITION | 21 September, 2019

None of the films released this week took any kind of mentionable opening. The weekend will, therefore, belong to DREAM GIRL and CHHICHHORE.

Dream Girl did extraordinarily well in the first week. It was off to a flying start with a net collection of Rs. 10.05 crore on the first day. Collections picked up by 60% on Saturday (Rs. 16.42 crore) and further to Rs. 18.10 crore on Sunday. In this way, it netted Rs. 44.57 crore in the first weekend. The comedy film’s performance during the weekdays was also phenomenal. It collected Rs. 7.43 crore on Monday, Rs. 7.40 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 6.75 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 6.05 crore on Thursday. By netting Rs. 27.63 crore in the weekdays, it took its first week’s total to an exceptional Rs. 72.20 crore. The film will easily join the Rs. 100-crore club in its second week. It stood at no. 1 in the UAE, no. 6 in New Zealand-Fiji, no. 8 in Australia, and no. 11 in the UK as well as in Canada.

Section 375 started slow but picked up in the weekend, and remained steady during the weekdays – all thanks to favourable mouth publicity. It netted Rs. 1 crore on the first day. The film is bound to join the 100-crore club, maybe by the end of the second week or in early third weekend.

It Chapter Two (dubbed) and the original English version of the same name did fair business in the first week. It collected Rs. 2.50 crore on the first day, Rs. 3.50 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 3.75 crore on Sunday. After a weekend total of Rs. 9.75 crore, it added Rs. 4.40 crore in the weekdays as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.15 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1 crore, Thursday Rs. 0.85 crore. LATEST POSITION | 6 September, 2019

Despite mixed reports, more towards the negative side, the Hindi version of Saaho managed a fantastic first week. Yet, its heavy cost may not be recoverable from all the versions put together because the public reports aren’t exciting, and also because collections of the Telugu and other South versions are below the mark after the first weekend. The film, made in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil, and dubbed in Malayalam, has cost more than Rs. 350 crore. Of this, a maximum of around Rs. 150 crore has been/will be recovered from satellite, digital and audio rights, leaving over Rs. 200 crore to be recovered from theatrical sources. The film would need to net around Rs. 425 crore in all the languages put together, to break even. This seems rather difficult. It will, therefore, lose part of the investment. The Hindi version netted a phenomenal Rs. 25 crore on the first day. Collections dropped by Rs. 1 crore on Saturday. After collecting Rs. 24 crore on the second day, the film picked up on Sunday but the jump was not huge enough for the film to run to the winning post. It collected only Rs. 29 crore on Sunday. Had the film been a major hit, it should’ve netted over Rs. 40 crore on Sunday. After a weekend total of Rs. 78 crore, collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 14.25 crore (due to Ganesh Chaturthi holiday; but the festival adversely affected collections in parts of Maharashtra mainly), Tuesday – Rs. 9.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 6.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 6.75 crore. In this way, the film added Rs. 37 crore in the weekdays. Its total for the first week was a fantastic Rs. 115 crore. Strange as it may sound, collections of the Hindi version (rather than the Telugu version) in the second week will be a pointer to whether the film makes a huge loss or loses moderately.

The Angry Birds Movie 2 (dubbed) and the English original of the same name did not fare too well in the second week.

Mission Mangal netted Rs. 2.20 crore on the first day of the third weekend, Rs. 3.25 crore on the second day, and Rs. 3.64 crore on the third day. In this way, it collected Rs. 9.09 crore in the third weekend. Collections during the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.20 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.10 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.20 crore. By adding Rs. 5.50 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, it took its total for the third week to Rs. 14.59 crore. Its grand total for 3 weeks was, therefore, Rs. 192.54 crore.

Batla House collected Rs. 0.60 crore on the first day of the third weekend, Rs. 1.10 crore on the second day, and Rs. 1.50 crore on the third day. Hence, its third weekend’s total was Rs. 3.20 crore. Collections during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 0.85 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.43 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.45 crore. It, therefore, netted Rs. 2.13 crore in the weekdays, taking the third week’s total to Rs. 5.33 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 85.68 crore.

Mission Mangal was off to a flying start on Thursday (15th August) with a net total collection of Rs. 29 crore.
