Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan did very well in the first week but collections dropped markedly thereafter, as was expected. There was negative publicity from a larger section of the audience, and a positive word of mouth for the film from a smaller segment of the public, because of which collections came falling down after the excitement to watch a ‘different’ Ayushmann Khurrana starrer died down. The film netted a healthy Rs. 9.25 crore on the opening day. The partial holiday of Maha Shivratri, of course, helped boost collections. There was a jump of around 15% on Saturday which closed at Rs. 10.75 crore. The increase of a mere Rs. 25 lakh on Sunday (Rs. 11 crore) was a giveaway of things to come. After a weekend total of Rs. 31 crore, the film netted as follows during weekdays: Monday – Rs. 3.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.65 crore. By collecting Rs. 11.80 crore in the weekdays, the film took its total for the first week to Rs. 42.80 crore.

The horror drama netted Rs. 5.52 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 5.74 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 16.36 crore. Collections on the weekdays were very average: Monday – Rs. 2.35 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.07 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.85 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.55 crore. By adding Rs. 7.82 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, the film took its total for the first week to Rs. 24.18 crore.

Premasathi Anything (Marathi) failed to do anything substantive at the box-office in 1st week in Bombay, Thane district and other stations of Maharashtra.
Love Aaj Kal 2020 flopped in the first week itself. It started well because of its release on Valentine’s Day. The first day’s net collection of Rs. 12 crore gave way to a Saturday total of only Rs. 7 crore. The second day’s total was conclusive proof that the film had been rejected by the public. As if that weren’t bad enough, collections on Sunday were as dull as Saturday. After netting Rs. 7 crore on Sunday, the Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan starrer took its first weekend’s total to Rs. 26 crore. Collections on the weekdays were rather pathetic: Monday – Rs. 2 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.35 crore. In this way, the film netted Rs. 6.60 crore in the weekdays and took its total for the first week to Rs. 32.60 crore. The film, which had to net Rs. 100 crore to break even, will lose breath at less than Rs. 40 crore!
Malang did fair in 2nd week but is still a far cry from its break-even point of Rs. 70-crore-plus. It started its second weekend by collecting Rs. 2.25 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday (Rs. 2.50 crore) and Sunday (Rs. 3.15 crore) took the second weekend’s total to Rs. 7.90 crore. Collections during the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.35 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.25 crore. It, therefore, netted Rs. 3.15 crore in the sixth weekend. Collections during the weekdays were decent: Monday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.55 crore. So, it added Rs. 2.10 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, taking its total for 6th week to Rs. 5.25 crore. Grand total for 6 weeks: Rs. 258.45 crore.

Solapur Gangwar (Marathi) turned out to be a debacle in its first week in Bombay, Thane district and the rest of Maharashtra.
Malang did average business in the first week. It opened to average houses on the first day which closed at Rs. 6.25 crore. There was a jump of more than 30% on Saturday which closed at Rs. 8.25 crore. However, the increase on Sunday was below the mark because the word of mouth was not upto the mark. Sunday closed at only Rs. 9.25 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 23.75 crore. Collections during the weekdays were fair but not good enough for the investment of Rs. 65 crore in the film. Monday closed at Rs. 3.85 crore, Tuesday at Rs.3.55 crore, Wednesday at Rs. 3.10 crore, and Thursday at Rs. 2.85 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 13.35 crore, and the total for the first week, Rs. 37.10 crore. The film needs to net around Rs. 70-75 crore to break even.
Shikara did ordinary in the first weekend, after which collections dropped fast and furiously. It collected Rs. 1.20 crore on the first day, Rs. 1.65 crore on Saturday and Rs. 1.70 crore on Sunday. The negligible increase in collections on Sunday gave an indication that the film was not headed for anything substantive at the turnstiles. Sure enough, after a weekend total of Rs. 4.55 crore, collections during the weekdays were below the mark: Monday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.35 crore. By adding Rs. 1.50 crore to its kitty in the weekdays, the film took its first week’s total to Rs. 6.05 crore. Although it is a moderately priced film, it will not be able to show any profit because of the dull collections in the weekdays. The film came in for criticism as it is said to be a very lame recounting of events that happened when Kashmiri Pandits were forced to flee Kashmir in 1990, leaving their homes, wealth and assets behind.
Hacked fared poorly in the first week. The poorly-promoted film collected only Rs. 0.20 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.26 crore and 0.32 crore respectively. Collections on the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.40 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.35 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.35 crore. Collections increased to Rs. 12.50 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 17 crore on Sunday. The Sunday jump was also because of Republic Day. Lata Bhagwan Kare (Marathi) failed to do anything worthwhile in the first week in Bombay, Thane district and the rest of Maharashtra.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, contrary to our review, has turned out to be a super-hit. It netted Rs. 14 crore on the first day, which was a very good figure. Collections jumped by more than 40% on Saturday which, therefore, closed at an outstanding Rs. 20 crore. Sunday saw collections increase even more (Rs. 25.50 crore). In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 59.50 crore. Collections during the weekdays were equally outstanding. Its performance in Maharashtra (due to the film being about the Marathas) was simply phenomenal. The film is going super-strong in the second week too and is now set for a long run.
Chhapaak could not make much of a splash in 1st week. Collections may have been affected slightly by the call to boycott the film because heroine Deepika Padukone went to the JNU in Delhi three days before the film’s release to express solidarity with the anti-CAA students. It netted only Rs. 4.50 crore on the first day. Collections increased by more than 40% on Saturday but the total of Rs. 6.50 crore was not too impressive. The increase of a mere Rs. 0.50 crore on Sunday underlined the fact that the film had not found much acceptance. No doubt, it was a class-appealing film but the first weekend’s total of only Rs. 18 crore was just about okay even for a class-appealing fare starring Deepika and directed by Meghna Gulzar. Collections during the weekdays were not encouraging despite Lori and Sankranti. It netted Rs. 2.05 crore on Monday, Rs. 2.25 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2.25 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 1.35 crore on Thursday. Dabangg 3 netted Rs. 2.65 crore in the third weekend, and another Rs. 1.50 crore in the weekdays. It, therefore, added Rs. 4.15 crore to its kitty in 3rd week and thereby took its 3-week total to Rs. 146.85 crore.

It collected Rs. 13.41 crore on Monday, Rs. 16.20 crore on Tuesday (31st December), Rs. 22.50 crore on Wednesday (New Year’s day), and Rs. 10.80 crore on Thursday.
