‘KALKI 2898 AD’ OFF TO WONDERFUL START

KALKI 2898 AD (dubbed) started on a wonderful note on Thursday (June 27). In spite of the odd-day release — that too, without it being a holiday — the film netted Rs. 22 crore on the first day. Collections on Friday totalled Rs. 22.50 crore, which was slightly more than the first day. Collections should show a sizeable jump today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday).   

Living up to the first and second parts, JATT & JULIET 3 (Punjabi) opened to historic houses on Thursday (June 27) despite an odd-day release. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore in East Punjab on the first day, and another Rs. 1 crore from Delhi and other stations. The film grossed an overwhelming Rs. 6.63 crore Overseas on day 1! Collections on the second day (Friday) were just as outstanding!!

Ishq Vishk Rebound could not score in 1st week. It managed barely Rs. 4.50 crore in the first week.

Hamare Baarah proved a box-office bomb. It performed rather badly in the first week.

Jahangir National University met with a disastrous fate at the turnstiles in 1st week.

Pushtaini cut a sorry picture of itself in the first week.

A Stranger By The Hill collected so miserably in the first week that it lived up to the adage: truth (collections) is stranger than fiction.

Fake Boy Friend proved to be a debacle in 1st week.

Zeenat could do almost nothing in the first week.

Trisha On The Rocks (dubbed) could not do anything substantive in the first week.

Creation Of The Gods I: Kingdom Of Storms (dubbed) bombed in the first week.

Chandu Champion did fairly well in the second weekend but was dull during the weekdays. It crashed on Thursday (June 27) due to the release of Kalki 2898 AD. It started its second weekend with a take of Rs. 3.10 crore.Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 4.90 crore, and to Rs. 6.25 crore on Sunday. After a second weekend total of Rs. 14.25 crore, collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.85 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.80 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6.35 crore. In this way, the second week closed at Rs. 20.60 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 56.20 crore.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) continued to shine (mainly English version) in 2nd week. The film netted Rs. 0.93 crore on the first day of the second weekend. Collections increased by almost 150% on Saturday so that the day closed at Rs. 2.21 crore. The figure for Sunday was an impressive Rs. 2.57 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 5.71 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.69 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.77 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.43 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.54 crore, and the total for 2nd week was Rs. 8.25 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 18.28 crore.

Munjya continued to kill it at the box-office in 3rd week too. It will join the Rs. 100-crore club in the fourth week. The third weekend commenced with a net collection of Rs. 3.31 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday jumped to Rs. 5.80 crore and Rs. 7.20 crore respectively. Hence the total for the third weekend was a very impressive Rs. 16.31 crore. The film behaved pretty well on the weekdays too except on the last day (Thursday) when Kalki 2898 AD opened. It netted Rs. 2.50 crore on Monday, Rs. 2.48 crore on Tuesday, Rs. 2.49 crore on Wednesday, and Rs. 0.85 crore on Thursday. The total for the weekdays was, therefore, Rs. 8.32 crore. In this way, the third week closed at Rs. 24.63 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 95.63 crore.

Alyad Palyad (Marathi) was very steady in 2nd week in Maharashtra.

Trisha On The Rocks (Gujarati) did excellent business in the first week in Gujarat and Saurashtra. It netted Rs. 2.48 crore in the first week.

Jhamkudi (Gujarati) stood super-strong in 4th week in spite of the opposition posed by last week’s Gujarati release, Trisha On The Rocks. Its total collection for the fourth week was Rs. 2.50 crore, which was extraordinary! Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 15.84 crore.

‘MUNJYA’ CONTINUES VICTORY MARCH

Chandu Champion did ordinary business in 1st week. The slow start was the biggest setback for the film. Although collections increased in the weekend, the jumpstart was missing. It netted only Rs. 4.50 crore on the first day. Collections picked up on Saturday which closed at Rs. 7 crore. The total for Sunday was Rs. 10 crore. In this way, the first weekend closed at Rs. 21.50 crore only. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday (not much benefit of the Eid holiday) – Rs. 5 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.85 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 14.10 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 35.60 crore.

Manihar met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Inside Out 2 (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did very well in the first week. Actually, the original English version scored while the Hindi dubbed version fared poorly. The film (both, English and Hindi dubbed) netted Rs. 1.26 crore on the first day. Collections increased to Rs. 2.16 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 2.71 crore on Sunday. After a first weekend total Rs. 6.13 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday (Eid holiday) – Rs. 1.49 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.81 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.83 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.77 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 3.90 crore. Therefore, the total for the first week was Rs. 10.03 crore.

 

Munjya did outstanding business in 2nd week, the drop being barely 5.5% over the first week. The film will qualify to be called a surprise super-hit. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 3.75 crore. Collections almost doubled to Rs. 6.75 crore on Saturday. The total for Sunday was an astounding Rs. 8.75 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 19.25 crore, the collections for the weekdays were: Monday (Eid holiday) – Rs. 5.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 3.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 3.25 crore, Thursday – Rs. 3 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was a wonderful Rs. 15.25 crore. In this way, the second week’s total was a phenomenal Rs. 34.50 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 71 crore.

 

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die (dubbed and the original English versions) crashed in the second week.

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi is breathing its last. It added only Rs. 2.40 crore to its kitty in 3rd week. Grand total for 3 weeks: 35.81 crore.

Alyad Palyad (Marathi) has done fairly well in the first week in Maharashtra.

Sangharshyoddha Manoj Jarange (Marathi) could not do well in 1st week in Maharashtra.

Soham (Marathi) did not fare well in the first week in Maharashtra.

Jhamkudi (Gujarati) was extraordinary in 3rd week too in Gujarat and Saurashtra. It collected Rs. 4.19 crore in the third week, taking its grand total for 3 weeks to Rs. 13.34 crore.

‘MUNJYA’ SURPRISES TRADE

This week’s new release, CHANDU CHAMPION, started on a shaky wicket but its positive reports offset the dejection that could’ve set in.

Munjya sprung a wonderful surprise on the trade. In spite of a low-key promotional campaign, the film took a pretty impressive start. After that, collections jumped during the weekend, giving enough hope that the medium-budget film was on its way to becoming a hit. Collections during the weekdays were also pretty good. The first day closed at Rs. 4.21 crore, thanks in no small measure to reduced ticket prices. Collections on Saturday jumped to Rs. 7.40 crore, and further to Rs. 8.43 crore on Sunday. After a weekend total of Rs. 20.04 crore, collections for the weekdays were supremely steady: Monday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.21 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 4.11 crore, Thursday – Rs. 4.03 crore. With the total for the weekdays being a wonderful Rs. 16.46 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 36.50 crore. Around 90% of the film’s cost has been recovered by way of the distributor’s share for the first week alone!

Bajrang Aur Ali failed to bring the footfalls in the first week.

Malhar met with a disastrous fate in 1st week.

Phooli flopped miserably all over in the first week.

Bad Boys: Ride Or Die (dubbed and the original English versions) did average in 1st week. The film collected Rs. 0.39 crore in paid previews on Thursday. Collections on Friday were Rs. 1.25 crore. The totals for Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.90 crore and Rs. 1.63 crore respectively. Hence the total for the first 4-day weekend was Rs. 5.17 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.51 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.46 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.38 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.34 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.69 crore. So the first week closed at Rs. 6.86 crore.

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi faced a noticeable fall in collections in 2nd week. It netted Rs. 1.31 crore on Friday, Rs. 2.22 crore on Saturday, and Rs. 1.95 crore on Sunday, taking the second weekend’s total to Rs. 5.48 crore. Collections for the weekdays were very low: Monday – Rs. 0.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.79 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.70 crore. Srikanth netted Rs. 1.10 crore in its fifth weekend, and another Rs. 0.52 crore during the weekdays. In this way, the total for 5th week was Rs. 1.62 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 48.90 crore.

GUJARATI ‘JHAMKUDI’ SHINES

Mr. & Mrs. Mahi did well in the first weekend, buoyed by the low ticket price on the first day (June 1) which was celebrated as the Cinema Lovers’ Day. It netted Rs. 6.85 crore on the first day. Collections fell to Rs. 4.65 crore on Saturday as the ticket prices returned to the regular levels. Sunday closed at Rs. 5.62 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 17.12 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.21 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.86 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.90 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.80 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 7.77 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 24.89 crore.

Savi did ordinary business in the first week, which was not bad, considering that it was a small-budget fare and one which was handicapped by low promotion. The first day (Cinema Lovers’ Day) closed at Rs. 2.05 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.75 crore and Rs. 1.76 crore respectively. In this way, the total for the first weekend was Rs. 5.56 crore. Collections dipped quite dramatically during the weekdays: Monday – Rs. 0.55 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.45 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.44 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.94 crore. Total for 1st week: Rs. 7.50 crore.

 

Chhota Bheem And The Curse Of Damyaan could not do much in 1st week despite the popularity of the Chhota Bheem character among kids.

Aranmanai 4 (dubbed) performed poorly in the first week.

Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 0.30 crore and Rs. 0.25 crore respectively. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 1.18 crore and Rs. 1.37 crore respectively. AUDIENCE’S LOVE POURS ON CINEMA LOVERS’ DAY

Low admission rates of Rs. 99 on the occasion of Cinema Lovers’ Day yesterday (May 31) resulted in an upsurge in footfalls in multiplexes and single-screen cinemas. The biggest beneficiary was the new release, MR. & MRS. MAHI which netted Rs. 6.85 crore on the first day. SAVI also stood to gain; it collected Rs. 1.95 crore on the opening day. The other new releases did not perform well at the box-office in spite of the controlled ticket prices.

Bhaiyya Ji could not do much in the first week. It performed better in single-screen cinemas than in multiplexes. It netted Rs. 1.44 crore on the first day. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 2.01 crore and Rs. 2.40 crore respectively. Hence the total for the first weekend was Rs. 5.85 crore. Collections for the weekdays were on the lower side: Monday – Rs. 0.88 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.89 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.76 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.65 crore. With the total for the weekdays being Rs. 3.18 crore, the first week closed at Rs. 9.03 crore.

There was no respite for the box-office last week, too, as collections remained low. And there doesn’t seem to be a major saviour on the horizon — for some more weeks at least — which could create scintillating magic at the ticket windows. Exhibitors continue to reel under losses… FURIOSA: A MAD MAX SAGA (dubbed and the original English versions) opened on Thursday (May 23) and netted approximately Rs. 2.25 crore on the first day.

Kartam Bhugtam met with a disastrous fate, netting barely Rs. 1.15 crore in the first week.

The Garfield Movie (animation, dubbed and the original English versions) did average business in 1st week. It netted around Rs. 2.85 crore in the first weekend and another Rs. 1.70 crore during the weekdays. In this way, it managed to collect Rs. 4.55 crore in the first week.

Srikanth remained steady at medium collections in 2nd week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.67 crore. Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 2.82 crore. The jump on Sunday was higher so that the day closed at Rs. 4.04 crore. Collections increased to Rs. 4.26 crore on Saturday, and further to Rs. 5.28 crore on Sunday, taking the first weekend total to Rs. 11.95 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.69 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.48 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.49 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.43 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 6.09 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 18.04 crore.

Tipppsy bombed in the first week all over.

Yaathisai (dubbed) failed miserably in 1st week all over.

‘SRIKANTH’ THIS WEEK TOES LINE OF NON-STARTERS

Notwithstanding the full-page advertisements in leading newspapers yesterday (May 10) morning, SRIKANTH opened to poor houses yesterday. In spite of being the solo star cast release and notwithstanding the fact that no running film is attracting footfalls in cinemas, SRIKANTH managed to collect only Rs. 2.50 crore on the first day. Clearly, the public doesn’t trust the worthless star ratings publicised by producers and flaunted by stars as if they were Michelin stars.

Pyar Ke Do Naam proved to be a debacle at the box-office in 1st week.

Lorii recorded miserable collections in 1st week.

Kasoombo (dubbed) turned out to be a non-starter in the first week.

The Fall Guy (dubbed and the original English versions) fared ordinarily in the first week. While the original (English) version did reasonable business, the dubbed Hindi version performed quite poorly. Its opening on Thursday was slow but collections jumped on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Luv You Shankar met with a disastrous fate in 1st week. Its collections for the week totalled a very few lakh rupees only.

The Legacy Of Jineshwar bombed miserably in 1st week, netting barely Rs. 7-8 lakh in the first week.
