‘JAWAN’ BECOMES BIGGEST HINDI BLOCKBUSTER EVER

It must be the first time in the history of Bollywood that two films became the biggest Hindi blockbusters ever in the same week, but one after another. First, GADAR 2 superseded the business of PATHAAN to occupy the top position on September 27. It enjoyed that position for exactly a day because on September 28, JAWAN outdid both, GADAR 2 and PATHAAN, to become the no. 1 film of Hindi cinema ever!

Fukrey 3 was off to a fair start on Thursday (September 28). It netted Rs. 8.82 crore on the first day. Collections dropped 15% on the second day so that the day closed at Rs. 7.50 crore.

The Vaccine War seems to have been rejected completely because people don’t want to revisit the horrendous COVID-19 pandemic days which they have lived through. Probably, the depressing and horrifying memories of those dark days in 2020 and 2021 have kept the public away from the cinemas screening this film about the development of the Indian COVID-19 vaccine.

The Great Indian Family failed miserably at the box-office in 1st week. It netted Rs. 3.75 crore in the first weekend, and another Rs. 1.25 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the first week closed at only Rs. 5 crore.

Sukhee proved a box-office disaster in the first week all over.

The Purvanchal Files bombed miserably in 1st week all over.

Chattan was a non-starter in the first week.

The Expendables 4 (dubbed and the original English versions) could not do anything substantive in the first week.

Jawan started its third weekend with a take of Rs. 7.61 crore on Friday. Of this, Rs. 7.10 crore was for the original Hindi version while Rs. 0.51 crore was for the two (Tamil and Telugu) dubbed versions. Collections jumped to Rs. 12.25 crore on Saturday — Rs. 11.50 crore for Hindi, Rs. 0.75 crore for dubbed versions. The total for Sunday was Rs. 14.95 crore (Hindi Rs. 13.90 crore, dubbed Rs. 1.05 crore). In this way, the third weekend closed at Rs. 34.81 crore (Hindi Rs. 32.50 crore, dubbed Rs. 2.31 crore). Therefore, the Hindi version crossed the Rs. 500-crore mark in just 18 days by touching Rs. 505.96 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 5.45 crore (Hindi Rs. 4.90 crore, dubbed Rs. 0.55 crore), Tuesday – Rs. 4.86 crore (Hindi Rs. 4.40 crore, dubbed Rs. 0.46 crore), Wednesday – Rs. 4.84 crore (Hindi Rs. 4.45 crore, dubbed Rs. 0.39 crore), Thursday – Rs. 5.97 crore (Hindi Rs. 5.81 crore, dubbed Rs. 0.16 crore). This makes it the biggest Hindi blockbuster ever as it has outdone the Rs. 524 crore of Pathaan (Hindi only) and the Rs. 524.50 crore of Gadar 2.

The Nun II (dubbed and the original English versions) continued to score in 3rd week. It netted Rs. 0.83 crore on the first day of the third weekend. ‘GADAR 2’ COMES LIKE A ROAD ROLLER, ‘OMG 2’ ALSO DOES WELL

The week that went by proved to be the best week at the ticket counters in cinema history. With GADAR 2, OH MY GOD 2 and RAJINI THE JAILER (Tamil) having recorded collections that ranged from the good to the super-extraordinary, the week proved to be bountiful like never before. Collections at the box-office were unprecedented!

Gadar 2 has come like a road roller. The crowds inside and outside cinema halls are to be seen to be believed. People from villages (where there are no cinemas) are travelling very long distances to watch the film which seems to have become the current Indian sentiment. Thousands of enthusiastic fans have already repeated the film in the cinemas, not twice but even three times. Among the huge crowds of people, who’ve seen the film in the first week, are those who have ventured out to the cinemas after many years! The film has smashed plenty of records, especially at single-screen cinemas. At some cinemas, the film has written history by recording collections which are 30-40 times the usual collections!!! The film netted Rs. 40.10 crore on the first day. After the flying start, collections increased to Rs. 43.08 crore on Saturday. The jump was phenomenal on Sunday which, therefore, closed at Rs. 51.70 crore. After a fantastic weekend total of Rs. 134.88 crore, collections for the weekdays were equally mind-blowing: Monday – Rs. 38.70 crore, Tuesday (Independence Day national holiday) – Rs. 55.40 crore, Wednesday (Parsi New Year partial holiday) – Rs. 32.37 crore, Thursday – Rs. 23.28 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was a phenomenal Rs. 149.75 crore. Hence the first week closed at a mind-numbing Rs. 284.63 crore. The second weekend also started on a wonderful note. The net collection of approximately Rs. 21 crore on the first day of the second weekend may be the highest second Friday ever!!

Oh My God 2 has done very well in the first week, reaping good advantage of the Independence Day and Parsi New Year holidays on 15th and 16th August. The film netted Rs. 9 crore on the first day. Collections jumped to Rs. 14 crore on Saturday, and even more to Rs. 17 crore on Sunday. The first weekend’s total was, therefore, Rs. 40 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 10.50 crore, Tuesday (Independence Day holiday) – Rs. 16.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 6.50 crore, Thursday – Rs. 5 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 38.50 crore. Hence the total for the first week was Rs. 78.50 crore.

Rajini The Jailer (dubbed) could not fare well even though the original Tamil version killed it at the box-office in the first week.

Meg 2: The Trench (dubbed and the original English versions) faced a steep fall in its second week. The second weekend started with a take of Rs. 0.23 crore. Collections on Saturday more than doubled to Rs. 0.57 crore. The Sunday total was Rs. 0.68 crore. After a second weekend total of Rs. 1.48 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 0.29 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.64 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.19 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.13 crore. Hence the total for the weekdays was Rs. 1.25 crore. In this way, the total for the second week was Rs. 2.73 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 19.59 crore.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani buckled under competition, facing a steep fall in collections in the third week, mainly because of the hurricane called Gadar 2. However, its performance Overseas, which had been par excellence since the first day, continued to be awesome. Considering that Hollywood films Oppenheimer and Barbie were ruling the Overseas box-office when RRKPK hit the screens, this was a creditable achievement! The third weekend in India started at Rs. 2 crore. Collections on Saturday and Sunday were Rs. 3.25 crore and Rs. 3.50 crore respectively. In this way, the third weekend closed at Rs. 8.75 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 2.50 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 4.50 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.75 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.50 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 10.25 crore. In this way, the total for 3rd week was Rs. 19 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 133.70 crore.

Oppenheimer (dubbed and the original English versions) started its fourth weekend with a take of Rs. 0.88 crore on Friday. Collections shot up to Rs. 1.71 crore on Saturday. The Sunday total (Rs. 1.66 crore) was slightly lower than that of Saturday. Therefore, the fourth weekend closed at Rs. 4.25 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.11 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.53 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.53 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.49 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 3.66 crore. Therefore, the total for the fourth week was Rs. 7.91 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 123.23 crore.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (dubbed and the original English versions) is on its last lap. Its fifth weekend started with a net collection of Rs. 16 lakh on Friday. Collections on Satuday jumped to Rs. 45 lakh, and further to Rs. 60 lakh on Sunday. After a weekend of Rs. 1.21 crore, collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 25 lakh, Tuesday – Rs. 50 lakh, Wednesday – Rs. 12 lakh, Thursday – Rs. 10 lakh. Hence the total for the weekdays was only Rs. 0.97 crore. In this way, the fifth week closed at Rs. 2.18 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 119.53 crore.

‘GADAR 2’ OPENS HUGE, ADVERSELY AFFECTS ‘OMG 2’ OPENING

GADAR 2 opened to extraordinary houses yesterday (11th August), smashing records at many cinemas, in the process. The GADAR EK PREM KATHA sequel had recorded phenomenal advance booking all over, setting the stage for a mind-blowing start. The first day closed at Rs. 40.10 crore! The other big release, OH MY GOD 2, opened at far lower levels, thanks to the humongous opposition posed by GADAR 2. Although the reports, especially of the class audience, were positive, collections did not match, also because of poor showcasing. The film is said to have netted Rs. 9 crore on day 1. RAJINI THE JAILER (Tamil and dubbed in other languages) opened on Thursday (10th) to a thunderous response except in Hindi (dubbed).

Coat bombed in the first week all over.

Meg 2: The Trench (dubbed and the original English versions) did well in the first week, mainly in the South (Andhra-Telangana and Tamilnad circuits). Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 1.33 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 1.21 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.26 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.09 crore. ‘ROCKY AUR RANI…’ DOES WELL, ‘OPPENHEIMER’ HOLDS WELL

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani started slow last week, picked up as the day progressed, picked up further on Saturday, but the mediocre jump in collections on Sunday gave an indication that the film would not do earth-shattering business. The film seems to have become a fantastic weekend fare for the families because collections during the weekdays were very steady but at mediocre levels. It has done extremely well in high-end multiplexes and the big cities, where many people have loved the film so much that they are even repeating it, but the same is not true of the other multiplexes and single-screen cinemas, especially in smaller cities and towns. In other words, the response to the film ranges from the excellent to the ordinary. Although making profits is a foregone conclusion for the producers, thanks to the phenomenal revenues it earned from sale of digital, satellite and audio rights, the hope that the film would cross the Rs. 200-crore mark were dashed to the ground on the first day and again on Sunday. The first day’s net collection was Rs. 10 crore. Collections on Saturday totalled Rs. 15 crore. Sunday closed at Rs. 17.75 crore, taking the first weekend’s total to Rs. 42.75 crore. Collections for the weekdays were on the lower side but they were so steady on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday that the film seems to have created a new record of collections having held on so well on the last three days of the week! Collections of not even super-hits and blockbusters in all these years have maintained like the collections of RRKPP have: Monday – Rs. 6.25 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 6.60 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 6.15 crore, Thursday – Rs. 5.75 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 24.75 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 67.50 crore. The film is expected to fare well in the second weekend too, not just because it is a good weekend fare for the classes and families mainly but also because there is no major new Bollywood or Hollywood release this week. The first day of the second weekend closed at Rs. 6.50 crore, which is more than almost every weekday of the first week, another unusual record. All the aforementioned figures include the revenues from block bookings and bulk ticket sales. No film in the history of Hindi cinema has collected Rs. 6-plus crore on the fourth, fifth and sixth days of the first week after netting only Rs. 10 crore on the opening day. Likewise, no film has ever recorded a better first day (Friday) of the second week than the last day (Thursday) of the first week, like RRKPP has. In pure commercial terms (cost versus box-office revenues) though, this will be one of ace director Karan Johar’s weaker films.

Oppenheimer (dubbed and the original English versions) joined the Rs. 100-crore club yesterday (August 4) which was the first day of the third weekend. The two weeks’ total was just short of Rs. 100 crore. The film’s original English version held on very well in 2nd week while the dubbed Hindi version, which was already performing lower than the original version, continued to do so in the second week too. The net collection of both the versions put together on the first day of the second weekend was Rs. 4.46 crore. Collections on Saturday jumped so that the day closed at Rs. 7.45 crore. The Sunday total was Rs. 7.47 crore. In this way, the second weekend closed at Rs. 19.38 crore. Collections for the weekdays were as follows: Monday – Rs. 2.62 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2.44 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 2.38 crore, Thursday – Rs. 2.19 crore. Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 9.63 crore. Hence the total for 2nd week was Rs. 29.01 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 99.06 crore.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (dubbed and the original English versions) managed to yield shares in the third week too. The third weekend started with a take of Rs. 1.20 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday and Sunday went up to Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 2.20 crore respectively. The total for the third weekend, therefore, was Rs. 5.40 crore. Collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 0.70 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 0.65 crore, Thursday – Rs. 0.60 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 2.60 crore. Hence the total for 3rd week was Rs. 8 crore. Grand total for 3 weeks: Rs. 113.15 crore.

Aanibaani (Marathi) could not do anything worthwhile in its first week all over Maharashtra.

Baipan Bhari Deva (Marathi) netted Rs. 3.25 crore in the fifth weekend and another Rs. 1 crore during the weekdays. Hence the total for 5th week was Rs. 4.25 crore. Grand total for 5 weeks: Rs. 72.26 crore. Outstanding!!

Therefore, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 21.86 crore. In this way, the first week closed at Rs. 70.05 crore.

Although it was not dubbed in Hindi or other regional languages, Hollywood’s Barbie netted an excellent Rs. 24.76 crore in 1st week.

Snake Cave (dubbed) proved to be a debacle in the first week.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (dubbed and the original English versions) fell about 75% in 2nd week. Its second weekend started with a take of Rs. 3 crore on Friday. Collections on Saturday increased to Rs. 5.50 crore and further to Rs. 6 crore on Sunday. Hence the second weekend closed at Rs. 14.50 crore. The collections for the weekdays were: Monday – Rs. 1.80 crore, Tuesday – Rs. 2 crore, Wednesday – Rs. 1.70 crore, Thursday – Rs. 1.70 crore. In this way, the total for the weekdays was Rs. 7.20 crore. Therefore, the total for the second week was Rs. 21.70 crore. Grand total for 2 weeks: Rs. 105.15 crore.

Aflatoon (Marathi) bombed miserably in the first week all over Maharashtra.

Baipan Bhari Deva (Marathi) continued its winning streak in the fourth week too. It netted Rs. 7.02 crore in the fourth weekend, and Rs. 2.40 crore during the weekdays. Therefore, the total for 4th week was Rs. 9.42 crore. Grand total for 4 weeks: Rs. 68.01 crore.

Bachubhai (Gujarati) did very well in the first week all over Gujarat and Saurashtra.
