Arjun Karanwal, the main suspect in the recent abduction of comedian-actor-producer Sunil Pal in Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), was shot in the leg on December 15 after he allegedly tried to escape by snatching a police officer’s revolver and firing at a police team in Meerut. He was being taken for a medical examination in the morning.
Karanwal’s accomplice, Lavi Pal, is still absconding. After the arrest of Arjun, the police recovered an SUV, a mobile phone and more than Rs. 2 lakh cash from his possession.
According to SSP Dr. Vipin Tada, “Karanwal opened indiscriminate fire at the police while being taken to district hospital. He sustained a bullet wound in his right leg in retaliatory fire. We’ve scanned over 100 CCTV clips, raided multiple locations, and are in touch with victims. Lavi Pal will be arrested soon. Karanwal and Pal are also accused in the abduction case of actor Mushtaq Khan, a case registered in Bijnor. The Bijnor police arrested four suspects on Saturday (December 14).”
Sunil Pal was allegedly kidnapped in Meerut on December 2 after being lured to the city under the pretext of an event which was never scheduled to be held.
