Anushka Sharma on January 12 approached the Bombay high court to challenge the sales tax department’s March 2021 order asking her to pay more than Rs. 1.20 crore dues for assessment year 2012-13 under the Maharashtra Value Added Tax (MVAT) Act. She similarly challenged the assessment and demands for dues for three subsequent years.
A bench of Justices Nitin Jamdar and Abhay Ahuja on January 12 gave the department two weeks’ time to respond. The matter was posted for hearing on February 6.
