APPLICATION, CERTIFICATION OF HINDI DUBBED FILMS: CBFC CHANGES STAND | 19 October, 2023

The Central Board of Film Certification has allowed the application and certification of Hindi dubbed films in the region where the original version of the film is certified. This decision will initially be effective, on a trial basis, for six months from 20th October.

During the six-month trial period, the CBFC will assess and monitor the impact on the workload and language expertise at its various regional offices. A final decision to continue or discontinue it beyond six months will be taken after the assessment.

The CBFC had received several representations from film trade associations, particularly from the South, to allow certification of Hindi dubbed versions in the respective region where the original version of the film was certified. Based on industry feedback and comments of the regional officers of the CBFC, the CBFC decided to withdraw its communication dated April 19, 2017. This communication had directed that all the applications for certification of Hindi dubbed films be made only to the CBFC’s Bombay regional office.
